Springtime means birthday season. Kids are really easy and I almost always go for books because one can never have too many and I find toys to be too gendered. Buying gifts for adult is often a headache, especially for male friends who seem to have everything. One place I find helpful for both kids and adults is concept store Aksara which mixes books with fashion, homeware, small gadgets and even cosmetics (it’s in Kemang or Pacific Place, but Art & Science is a smaller version at Grand Indonesia).

Walking (or driving) around the residential neighborhoods of the wealthy, I often try to imagine the interiors of the houses that hide behind the gates. Would you like to see one of them?
