DIY activity for kids: Colour hunting

This activity requires very little effort and equipment and is great for practicing fine motor skills (using scissors), learning colours and encouraging observation.

Supplies

  • Egg carton
  • Felt pen / crayons / pencils
  • Scissors

Prepare the egg carton by colouring the bottom of each hole with one colour. Try to pick the colours according to what you can find in your environment (I was outdoors so I went for green, white, brown, orange, red, pink).

Once the egg carton is ready, explain that you are going on a colour hunt, trying to find little pieces of each colour for the treasure box. Perhaps, you will have to review the colours together first and show him how to match the first colour.

An indoor version is also doable, using Legos or small toys.
