This museum is totally underrated and officially my favourite in Jakarta. Perhaps because I went there without any expectations (which is probably a healthy way to approach tourism in Jakarta anyways) I came out really impressed.
The building is beautifully restored and houses a permanent exhibition showcasing Indonesian modern and contemporary artworks (and a little bit of foreign artists too). The collection is not very big and the museum could offer a bit more content but I still enjoyed the visit very much.
The museum also provides a large space for temporary exhibitions. I went there during the 4th edition of the Contemporary Ceramics Biennale, which was really worth it.
I’ve visited this museum several times now and usually aim for opening time on weekdays when the museum pleasantly empty.
Entrance to the museum is free and visitors must leave their bags at the reception (but cell phones and cameras are allowed inside) so best not to bring anything valuable.
